Shirley S. Waterman

Shirley S. Waterman, 86, formerly of Tanglewood Manor and Newland Ave., Jamestown, died at 6:50 p.m., Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2012), in the Heritage Vil-lage Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.

She was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Jamestown, the daughter of J. Willard and Ethyl C. Smith Wellman, and was a graduate of Pana-ma Central High School.

Prior to retiring in 1980, she had been a real estate broker, owning and operat-ing her own office. In earlier years, she had been employed by Connie Grey and the 4 Housemen real estate offices.

A member of the Lakewood Baptist Church, she was a very independent woman who at the age of 70 bought a house to fix up. She enjoyed bird watching, sewing, and travel, but most of all loved being with her family.

Surviving are a daughter, Laura S. (George) Renker of Ridge Manor, Fla.; two sons: James V. (Barbara) Bergman of Ashville, and Gary N. (Cindy) Bergman of Jamestown; 10 grandchildren: Daniel (Melinda), Jacques, and Vaner (Becca) Devereaux, Michelle Prince, Dawn, James (Danielle), Joseph C. (Kayla), and Kelly Berg-man, Jessica Morgan Gill, and Kimberly (Eugene) Johnson; 14 great-grand-children: Alex, Andrew, Aiden, John, Jarrett, Jordan, Caitlin, and Jenna Devereaux, William Nagy, Nicholas Weitschat, Dylan and Cooper Bergman, Xavier Perry and Jaleiya Glover; three great-great grandchildren; three step-children: Linda (Ted) Lindquist of Stow, Penny Smith of Watts Flats, and Gary Waterman of Arizona; and several step grandchildren and step great-grandchil-dren.

In addition to her father in 1973 and her mother in 1980, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Vaner Bergman in 1968; her second husband, James Waterman in 2000; a son, Roger Bergman in 2010; a grandson, Nicholas Bergman; a great-grandson, Demarius Bergman; a step-daughter, Kathy Waterman in 2010; and by five sisters: Marjorie Cross in 1993, Marion Summerfield in 1967, Helen Johnson in 2004, Lucille Bacon in 2004, and Priscilla Young in 1996.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. Pastor Daniel Cook of the Lakewood Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Grant Cemetery, Niobe.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
