America Vs. Obama

November 4, 2012
The Post-Journal

To the Readers' Forum:

America vs. Obama? Seriously? As if we're not already polarized enough in these times that we live in. Do you mean to say when you distribute and place these lawn signs in this election season that Democrats, Independents and perhaps a few Republicans that support and vote for Mr. Obama are truly un-American?

Those of us that happen to disagree with you (and that's approximately one-half of the electorate) don't really this country? You alone are the genuine patriots who can simply paint those who have not embraced your opinions as the ''Enemy?'' ''Hogwash,'' I say.

America at its best is an idea that includes all who want to live a better life and this idea embraces all people of good will. Their race, ethnicity, religion, gender or sexual orientation has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of their character or the goodness in their heart.

These signs make America smaller in stature and meaner in spirit. People of good will can agree to disagree and they do not demonize their opponent. At least that's what I learned in school was one of the crucial ideas that makes this country so special.
