Gladys L. Thrasher

GERRY - Gladys L. Thrasher, 93, of Gerry, went to her eternal reward, Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012.

She was born Sept. 26, 1919, in Martinsburg, the daughter of the late John and Florence Lairabee Wilmart. She was a 1937 graduate of Norwood High School and the first American from Moose Jaw Bible College in 1946.

In 1947, she came to the Gerry Homes and was originally employed in the nursery, later became matron for two years and was also employed at the Gerry Nursing Home (now Heritage Village).

On Dec. 28, 1938, she found salvation. A longtime member of the Gerry Free Methodist Church, she had been active in numerous church ministries including children's Sunday school teacher for 49 years, steward, WMS director of Missions, member of the choir and for 27 years ordered flowers for the sick and funerals.

Gladys enjoyed NASCAR, watching her sons race, riding in her son's old car, going for ice cream, eating hot dogs and loved time with her grandchildren.

Wife of 17 years to the late Dean L. Thrasher, whom she married June 8, 1957, and who died Jan. 12, 1974; mother of Alan R. and Mark C. Thrasher, both of Gerry, and Paul Thrasher of Jamestown; grandmother of Cassidy J. Miller, Rosetta L. and Jasmine L. Thrasher-Miller, all of Randolph, Jacob Near of Dewittville, Ashlyn McKane of Sinclairville, and Katie and Correy Thrasher of Falconer; sister of Alberta Picket of Michigan, Doris Chatterton of Washington and the late Violet Goulden and Grace Legrass. Also survived by nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Gerry Free Methodist Church, 4500 Church St., Gerry. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. Burial in Gerry Cemetery.
