About 1,000 people in southern Chautauqua County and parts of Cattaraugus County are dealing with power outages Tuesday.
According to National Grid's outage map, 989 people are without power due from high winds and downed trees caused by hurricane Sandy. Outages include:
214 customers in the Dutch Hollow Road area of Ellery. Power is expected to be restored by midnight.
173 customers in the town of Chautauqua from Cottage Park to Potter Road. Power is expected to be restored by midnight.
18 people on Pancake Hill Road in Bemus Point. Power is expected to be restored by midnight.
18 people in the village of Bemus Point. Power is expected to be restored by midnight.
28 on Dry Brook Road in Poland. Power is expected to be restored by midnight.
70 people in two outages in the areas east of Frewsburg. Power is expected to be back on by 4:30 p.m.
20 people near Big Tree Road in Busti. Power should be restored by midnight.
43 customers near Stebbins Road near Interstate 86 in Chautauqua. Power is expected to be restored by midnight.
35 on Bailey Hill, Waits Corners and Stebbins roads in Chautauqua. Power is expected to be restored by midnight.
370 in French Creek caused by electric poles falling because of the wind. Post should be back on by 5 p.m.
In addition to the National Grid outages, NYSEG is reporting 23 people without power in Ellington.
The Jamestown BPU control room had received a few calls as of midnight Monday of trees or limbs that had fallen on power lines, with one house losing power.
Several schools in the area are closed today, including Dunkirk, Fredonia, Lake Shore Career and Technical Academy, Salamanca, Westfield Academy and Central School, Ripley, Brocton, Sherman, the BOCES LoGuidice Center in Fredonia, Cassadaga Valley, Pine Valley, Chautauqua Lake, Panama and Clymer.
