KENNEDY - The recent Kennedy Pride meeting saw the group making plans for events to celebrate the upcoming holiday season.

The annual Town of Poland Christmas party will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8. Santa will arrive at 4 p.m. at the Kennedy Fire Hall. Refreshments will be available. Activities and food will be free of charge.

Memorial ornaments will once again be sold as a fundraiser for the Town of Poland Recreation Committee to purchase playground equipment. For a $5 donation, an ornament can be purchased in memory of, or in honor of, a friend or loved one. The names of those being remembered will be read during the Christmas party, as the ornaments are hung on the tree. Sign-up sheets will be available at the Town Clerk's office and the Kennedy Free Library.

Kennedy Pride is bringing back a Christmas lighting contest for town residents. Any town residents can participate, free of charge. Registration forms can be obtained from the town clerk's office or the library. Registrations must be returned by Dec. 1. The judges' decisions in several categories will be announced at the Christmas party on Dec. 8.

Steve Stanton, Kennedy Pride treasurer, said he had received a list of sign companies that had submitted designs and bids for the town on previous occasions. He will contact them about the "Welcome to Kennedy" signs. Group members hope to be able to discuss the results of his efforts over the winter, and be able to have work done early in the next outdoors work season.

Larry Mee told the group that he felt it would not take long to remove the damaged tree in Hallquist Park. When it has been taken care of, the site can be studied to make decisions concerning placement of a pavilion. He also said he felt it would be necessary to determine the exact boundaries of the park property so more development can happen. Reseeding was done in part of the park. Group members discussed various ideas for future projects for Hallquist Park.
