During the recent celebration of the 100th anniversary of Sacred Heart Parish, special presentation was made to the Rev. Monsignor Joseph M. Dowdell, pastor, received a plaque dedicating the parish center in his honor, by the Most Rev. Edward U. Kmiec, former Bishop of the Buffalo Diocese.
Dowdell has been pastor of Sacred Heart Parish for the past 24 years and during that time has officiated at baptisms, First Communions and Confessions and Confirmations involving hundreds of children, youth and young adults. He has helped heal people through the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick and presided at weddings and funerals. He is especially attentive to the needs of the youth and adults for religious education.
Ten years ago, he started a fund drive to build a parish center to accommodate the then 280 youth that Sacred Heart had in religious education classes. Through his efforts, the center was built to hold classes for the youth and adults with handicapped accessibility and modern technology.
