ELLICOTTVILLE - Michael Bloomfield-Brown, Holiday Valley Resort risk manager, has received the Ronald B. Stafford Award for safety in skiing at the Ski Areas of New York's annual meeting and trade show Sept. 18 at Greek Peak in Virgil.
This award recognizes individuals who have made an impact on the safety of skiers and snowboarders in New York state. Bloomfield-Brown has been a member of the National Ski Patrol for 53 years; at Greek Peak for the first 27 years, then Mountain High in Southern California for four years and then Sandia Peak in New Mexico for three years. He has spent the last 19 years as the risk manager at Holiday Valley. His strengths in risk management are in benchmarking and statistics to identify areas that can be improved upon. His ability to gather information, understand regulatory issues and communicate that information with other resorts makes him a valuable member of the industry.
Three of Bloomfield-Brown's children are also ski patrollers in New York state, with two at Greek Peak and one at Song Mountain.
