Maple Grove, Randolph Move On In?Class C

BEMUS POINT - Maple Grove continued its season-long roll, improving to 16-1-1 after posting a 4-1 victory over Frewsburg on Friday in the Class C boys soccer quarterfinals.

Riley Beaton started the scoring off for the Red Dragons, nailing an unassisted corner kick at the 28-minute mark of the first half, slotting it just inside the near post.

Three minutes later, Nick Swanson connected for a goal, assisted by Nick Hutchenson, at the 31-minute mark to give Maple Grove another lead just after Frewsburg's Brett Johnson scored to tie things up.

Erik Olson gave the Red Dragons some breathing room at the 67-minute mark of the game with an assist by Swanson to increase their lead to 3-1 and Jesse Pardue closed out the scoring, assisted by Patrick Crossley at 72 minutes.

Kyle Richardson earned the win in goal for the Red Dragons.

Jordan Lyon made 11 saves in the loss for Frewsburg

Maple Grove will meet Holland on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Pioneer High Schoo.l

CARDS TOP PORTVILLE

RANDOLPH - Top-seeded Randolph (16-1) earned a trip to the Class C semifinals on Friday and did it convincingly, defeating No. 8 Portville, 6-1.

Seven minutes into the first half, Matt Born scored for the Cardinals with an assist from Zach Jackson and six minutes later, Alex Shipherd found the net as Taylor Miller assisted for a 2-0 lead. Jacob Turner then scored with Miller assisting again at the 18-minute mark and Jackson Andrews added another goal with Miller getting his third assist at 31 minutes for the 4-0 advantage.

In the second half, Born picked up his second goal of the contest with the assist by Dustin Botzenmayer at 50 minutes and Botzemmayer closed out Randolph's scoring with an assist by Shipherd at the 62-minute mark.

Portville's Aaron Demski prevented the shutout with a goal at 89 miniutes with Zack Blask assisting.

Nick Carpenter earned the win in goal for the Cardinals, collecting four saves.

For Portville (6-11-1) Josh Watson had seven saves.

Randolph is slated to play I-Prep in the semifinals on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Pioneer.
