DUNKIRK - County Executive Greg Edwards recently presented his 2012 Innovative Energy Award to Nestle Purina PetCare Co. in Dunkirk.
The award was given due to the extensive energy efficient upgrades made at the plant. Upgrades include a high efficiency industrial steam boiler, a new direct fired natural gas dryer, improved plant lighting, new LED lighting in their parking lots, new energy shut-down procedures, and a "pilot" Solar Energy system installed over the office area.
"It is great to see a major employer in the area make so many capital improvements that lead to less energy consumption and less costs to run the plant," Edwards said. "Ron Bowers and his staff are to be congratulated for constantly seeking ways to improve their facilities. Not only are they good stewards of the environment, they are also excellent participants in our community."
