SYRACUSE - The most recent New York State Sportswriters Association poll was released on Tuesday, and for area teams, not much has changed.
The Maple Grove girls cross country team, which went undefeated this season with a 13-0 record and is the two-time defending state champions, remained at No. 1 in Class D.
Sherman, however, fell one place to No. 6 while in Class C, Fredonia held steady at No. 3.
In boys cross country, the also undefeated Red Dragons maintained its hold on the eight-spot in Class D.
Both the Maple Grove and Randolph boys soccer teams, despite continued success on the pitch, remained at No. 11 and 12, respectively, in Class C.
The Red Dragons, at 14-1-1, earned a two seed in the Section 6 playoffs and host their first contest today at 3:30 p.m. against Franklinville. Randolph (15-1) was awarded the top seed in the playoffs and earned a bye into the quarterfinals, where it will face off against either Portville or Tapestry-Maritime on Friday.
North Collins (12-1), the lone squad to defeat the aforementioned Red Dragons this season, is No. 5 in Class D.
Finally, in girls soccer, Maple Grove rose three places to No. 6 in Class C thanks to its still-perfect record of 17 wins and no losses. The Lady Red Dragons topped Barker, 6-0, in prequarterfinal playoff action on Tuesday.
Allegany-Limestone is No. 12 at 12-2-1 overall.
Ellicottville (13-2-1) rounds out the list with a No. 3 ranking in Class D.
