The annual Halloween Fun Fest at the Allen Park Ice Rink from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.
The event is co-sponsored by the city of Jamestown and Jamestown Police Department. The BOCES Law Enforcement Explorers will also be assisting at the event.
For parents and children who choose to trick or treat door-to-door in the city, the official hours have been set for 6 to 8 p.m. The Jamestown Police Department will provide additional patrols of neighborhood streets throughout the evening and will be assisted by the Jamestown Community College Criminal Justice Club. Club members will have safety patrols set up at busy intersections in the city.
Capt. Todd Isaacson of the Jamestown Police Department has offered many tips that can help insure safety on Halloween.
According to Isaacson, children should wear light colored, flame retardant, short costumes to avoid tripping and falling. He also suggests using reflective tape to make the child more visible. Children are also encouraged to trick or treat in groups that are accompanied by an adult, only visiting homes with the lights on. Makeup is preferred over masks so that the child's vision remains unobstructed. Parents should examine all candy before allowing children to eat it. Costumed children should also be kept away from pets, who may not recognize the child. Hard plastic or wood props should be exchanged for foam or rubber props that are soft and flexible. Parents and children should also be mindful of traffic.
All citizens are encouraged to be especially aware and alert of activity in their neighborhoods on Halloween night and are asked to notify the Jamestown Police Department of any potentially dangerous or criminal activity.
