SILVER CREEK - Ryan Carpenter and Holly Eliason of Sherman were the individual cross-country winners in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus League on a beautiful Monday afternoon.
Carpenter was timed in 16:10 on Silver Creek's 2.7-mile course in a race taken by Frewsburg (7-9) with 39 points. The Bears were followed by Gowanda (12-4) with 40 points, Silver Creek (1-14) with 73 and Sherman (7-9) with 79.
Frewsburg won the boys race by virtue of having finishes of third, fourth, eighth, ninth and 15th for 39 points compared to Gowanda with second, sixth, seventh, 12th and 13th for 40 points.
Eighth-grader Matt Kruszka of Gowanda was second to Carpenter with a 16:18 time. Christian Sardi led Frewsburg with a third-place finish of 16:26.
Eliason ran a 18:02 and teammate Rebecca King an 18:25 as the Sherman girls (13-3) had 34 points, Silver Creek (8-7) 45, Gowanda (11-5) 55 points and Frewsburg (6-10) 85.
Hannah Seiders of Silver Creek was third and sister Emma Seiders was fourth.
Shawna Raymond finished 10th for Frewsburg.
