KENNEDY - The weather may have been gray and chilly, but riders showed their enthusiasm to support the Kennedy Fire Department during the third annual Fall Foliage Ride.

Participants left the Kennedy Fire Hall and went out Route 62 to Ivory Road, then to Warren and Kinzua Dam for their first stop. Anderson Precision supplied coffee and hot chocolate for the tour. The sun broke through enough to highlight some of the splendor of the season along the route. From Kinzua, riders took Route 59 to Route 219, then north to Bradford Junction, and a stop for gas.

From there it was up to Route 417, then east into Olean and the Wal-Mart plaza. Poor Cow Leather provided pizza, wings, donuts, cider, pop and water for hungry riders at the midway point of the tour. Bob and Mary Ann Chambers look forward to the ride every year, and are always willing to support a good cause. Participants were more than pleased with the meal and found the store well-supplied with everything a rider could want.

Taking the back road out of the plaza, the group took the expressway east to the Route 16 exit, then traveled up through Hinsdale, Ischua and Franklinville, before heading over to Ellicottville. Here riders made a final rest stop, then took Route 242 back to Route 394 into Randolph. Coming through town, they came up over the hill of West Main Street, which turns into Grubb Hill Road at the county line, then took Grubb Hill back down to Route 62 and then back to the fire hall. A beef-on-weck meal, door prizes and giveaways topped off the day's events.

Dave Huber, Kennedy Volunteer Fire Department assistant chief and organizer of the event, thanked local law enforcement departments that helped direct traffic so riders could remain together. Their cooperation and timing contributed greatly to a smooth tour for the day. He also thanked all those who participated, since it was a chilly day. Huber was very pleased with the turnout, because there were other charity rides also running that day.
