The Cassadaga Legion Post 1280 Auxiliary will host a children's Halloween party from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. For more information, contact the post at 595-3145.
Sue Penhollow, president, presided at a recent meeting which was opened with prayer by Paul Patison, chaplain, the flag salute, auxiliary preamble and a moment of silence for fallen soldiers. She read correspondence and spoke on the ''Sweets for the Sweets Bake Sale,'' which raised funds for the Sweet family of Cassadaga.
Roger Torrey, post commander, was the guest speaker.
Reports were given by Gayle Cieplinski, children and youth chairwoman, who thanked all those who helped her with children's games at the post's family picnic and Sally Lawson, education, on the collection of backpacks for local school children.
Discussion was on the cruise night pie sales benefiting the historical society; future events including a food collection with the scouts for Make a Difference Day; the vendor showcase from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday; and the children's Halloween party.
Also discussed was the Family Assistance Fund, the department president's project; the G.I. Josh stuffed toys; the veterans' wish list; and a Thanksgiving basket raffle.
It was voted to donate money to ''Making Strides for Breast Cancer,'' ''The Chapel of the Four Chaplains'' and the Valley Historical Society.
Mrs. Cieplinski stated that donations are currently being accepted for the Post 1280 flag program that flies American flags throughout the community from Memorial to Veterans' days, a plaque with names of those honored and those who donated. For more information, contact Bruce Kaus at the post.
Coupons are also being collected for overseas families, ''Labels for Education'' and ''Pennies for Hospice.'' Brooms are also available. The cost is $8.
