Allen I. Jones

Allen I. Jones, 88, of Fredonia, N.Y., passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at the Absolut of Westfield surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on June 4, 1924, in Forestville, N.Y., the son of the late Ernest and Carrie Haverty Jones Sr. He was a resident of Fredonia, N.Y., since 1970, coming there from Dunkirk and Forestville.

Allen was retired from Great Lakes Color Printing of Dunkirk, N.Y., where he had been a printing pressman and journeyman. He was also a former employee of J.C. Penney in Dunkirk.

Allen served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operations from 1943 through 1945, serving his country in France, Germany and Luxembourg. He fought and participated in the Normandy Invasion, the Ardennes battle in Northern France and the battle in Central Europe. He was a retired member of the John W. Dill Post 434 in Brocton, N.Y., and the VFW Fredonia Post 1395, where he was a life member. Allen was a member of the Villenova Grange and a life member of the Grape Bunch Campers. He also enjoyed memberships in the Brocton-Portland Senior Citizens Association, the Care and Share Senior Citizens of Fredonia and the Conservation Club of Dunkirk, N.Y. He was also a member of the Falcon Club of Dunkirk and a life member of the AAA Good Sam Club. Allen belonged to the Tri Church Parish of Brocton, N.Y., where he was an active, cherished member.

He is survived by two sons: William (Linda) Jones of Cassadaga, N.Y., and Stephen (Donalee) Babcock of Fredonia, N.Y.; two daughters: Janet Batykefer of Albion, Pa., and Dawn Babcock of Portland, N.Y.; his brother, Miles Jones of Mayville, N.Y.; four sisters: Ella May Tiller of South Dayton, N.Y., Iva Jean Lipton of Rhode Island, Mary Alice Vetter of Ripley, N.Y., and Katherine Taggart of Rochester, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his first wife, Janette Rechlin Jones, who he married in 1944 and who passed away in 1955; his second wife, Irene Schrader Babcock Jones, who he married in 1957 and who passed away in 1999; and two brothers: Ernest Jones Jr. and Wayne Jones.

A full military service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Morse Funeral Home, Brocton, N.Y. The Rev. Larry Morrison will officiate. Interment will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Fredonia, N.Y.

Friends are invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home, 61 Highland Ave., Brocton, N.Y., from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
