GENESEE - Though the Jamestown Community College women's volleyball team was knocked out by Erie CC in the first round of the Western New York Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday, the day wasn't all bad.
Jamestown (26-10), fell to Erie in five games, 21-25, 26-24, 21-25, 25-11, 12-15, but got some good news later on when coach Ashley Lund earned WNYAC coach of the year honors, Christina Rauh and Brittany Brace were first-team all-conference selections and Kelsey Kyser and Aricca Lis were third-team all-conference selections.
This is the second time that Lund has been named coach of the year.
In the defeat, Rauh led the way with 27 assists, an ace, eight kills, 15 digs and one block while Kyser totaled three aces, 11 kills, 11 digs and three blocks; Brace three aces, 10 kills, 10 digs and three blocks; and Lis 10 kills and 17 digs.
"We fought as hard as we could," Lund said of the loss, "but it just wasn't our day."
Jamestown's season isn't over, either, as the Jayhawks travel to Herkimer CC to begin regional tournament pool play on Saturday.
