Volunteers from Cummins Engine and workers from the Welfare-to-Work Program worked for a combined total of 2,200 hours for the Chautauqua Lake Association this summer.
"Workers from both programs were on our barge and shoreline crews. We would not have been able to provide the shoreline services expected from area residents without the help of these dedicated volunteers," said Heather Nolan, Chautauqua Lake Association community relations manager.
One hundred eighty seven Cummins Engine employees volunteered for a total of 748 hours of lake maintenance as part of the company's community service work release program.

"This is the second year we've had the privilege of engaging in this volunteer program with Cummins and as an organization could not be more thankful and appreciative of their efforts," Nolan said.
Twenty-three workers were gained at various times during the summer for the Joint State-County-CLA Welfare-To-Work Program totaling 1,498 hours of work. One participant was hired by the CLA as a full-time summer worker and two welfare-to-work volunteers were hired as seasonal employees.
"With the many financial challenges the CLA faced this year, the participants in these two volunteer programs were invaluable in meeting our goals this summer," Ms. Nolan said.
The Chautauqua Lake Association is a 501c organization with more than 1,400 members. The group works to provide effective and efficient lake maintenance services for the benefit of all Chautauqua Lake users. The association works on in-lake management activities to protect and improve the quality of Chautauqua Lake.
