To the Readers' Forum:
Last week I received a phone call at the County Home for research of genealogy records. This particular request dated back to 1921. However, our records on file go back as far as the 1800s.
In looking through the volumes of ledgers, it occurred to me how much a part of history the County Home represents to all of us and our families. Then my thoughts turned to the arugments over the past year for either privatizing or maintaining the home as a county facility.
The home has been a financially self sustaining entity and will continue to be so through 2013. I have confidence the legislators who represent us, will use due diligence and take into account its purpose and those we serve before relinquishing the home to a private corporation.
Maybe, just maybe, we can overcome our differences of opinion and obstacles to reach somewhat of a win win situation for all those involved.
