Reasons To Celebrate

Along with celebrating its new location, Piazza Carpet One Floor & Home is also enjoying its 56th anniversary.

You may ask "Why would a business celebrate its 56th anniversary?" The answer, because the business opened in Brooklyn Square in 1956.

Sam Piazza, along with his brother, Larry, started the business with one location, which turned into three stores across the street. The business stayed in Brooklyn Square until 1968 when the business moved to Foote Avenue. The business was located there for the next 44 years until this year when it moved to a new spot, 878 Fairmount Ave.

Through the years, there have been changes in the family-owned business. In 1983, Larry retired and Sam and his son, Rick, bought his side of the business. Now, Rick's three sons, Andy, Rich and Todd, also work at the business.

"You don't see to many families carry on businesses anymore," Rick said. "My dad is now 91 years old. To see his son and his grandchildren keep the business going, must be great."

The business moved to the prior location of Stone Mountain Flooring Outlet, a business which also was owned by the Piazzas.

"Piazza Carpet was a showroom of carpet samples. Stone Mountain was a house inventory store. We decided to combine both businesses to make it easier for the customer to go to just one store," Rick said. "Now we have 13,000 square feet. We only had 5,000 square feet on Foote Avenue. The customers love it. There is easier parking to get in and out, and they love this side of town."

Piazza said the business has been able to continue for 56 years thanks to its loyal customers.

"We must be doing something right with our installation, customer service and pricing," he said. "The reason we've been able to succeed is our customers."

The business is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 664-6307.
