Gowanda Tops JHS In Div. 1 Volleyball

Jamestown started out well, but lost the final three games to Gowanda in Division 1 girls volleyball at Jefferson Middle School on Wednesday.

The Lady Red Raiders (2-7, 2-8) defeated Gowanda, 25-23, in the first game and were beaten the final three games, 25-21, 25-23, 30-28.

C.J. Sawatis had 12 assists, three kills, two blocks and 11 digs; Caleb Issac recorded five kills, block and a dig; and Jen Stebbins had four kills and six digs for Gowanda.

For Jamestown, Chrisanna Green delivered 12 kills and two blocks, Jessica Pace had three kills and 12 digs, Ashley Butman had 11 digs and two aces and Emily Kuropatwinski picked up 22 assists.

Jamestown won the jayvee match.

OLEAN TOPS SWCS

Southwestern (4-4, 8-4) kept on battling, but Olean ended up as the winner as the Lady Huskies won a hard-fought 3-2 match.

Olean took game one, 27-25, but the Lady Trojans tied things up with a 25-12 win in game two. The Lady Huskies prevailed in game three, 25-21, but again, Southwestern responded with a 25-16 win in the fourth game before falling 25-18 in game five.

For the winners, Bri Spears delivered three aces, 34 assists, four kills and five digs; Janelle Shaffer added an ace, 16 kills, a block and 12 digs; Kate Huselstein had an ace, two assists, eight kills, five blocks and six digs; and Kelly VanBrunt produced nine kills and eight digs.

For Southwestern, Maddy Alexander connected for 15 aces, eight assists, seven kills, a block and 12 digs; Sally Rudny had seven aces, eight kills and three blocks; Jenna Rauh added an ace, nine kills and 15 digs and Kara Schutte had four aces, 15 assists and four kills.

Olean also won the junior varsity match, 16-25, 27-25, 25-13.
