October 7, 2012
The Post-Journal

An outstanding effort was turned in by the Jamestown Community College women's soccer team in the second half of Saturday's NJCAA Region 3 Division III battle with undefeated Finger Lakes CC (13-0-1), which is ranked second in the nation.

The Jayhawks (6-5-2) saw their unbeaten string end at 4-0-2, but not before they scored a goal against Finger Lakes in the second half, which was just the sixth goal given up by the Lakers this season.

Unfortunately for the Jayhawks, Finger Lakes had three in the opening half and grabbed a 3-1 decision.

Finger Lakes scored at 20 minutes, 35 minutes and 40 minutes in the first half.

JCC came out strong in the second half and got on the scoreboard when Danelle Shelters scored her second goal of the fall from Jill Slawiak at 18 minutes. Shelters also has four assists on the season.

The Jayhawks put 12 shots on net and Emily Pleszewski had six saves in the loss.

''I am very happy the way we played in the second half against the second-ranked team in the nation,'' said coach Dana Shelters.

JCC is back in action at 11 a.m. today against visiting Essex Community College of New Jersey.
