Arson Attempt Thwarted In City

October 6, 2012
By Remington Whitcomb (rwhitcomb@post-journal.com) , The Post-Journal

An attempted arson was thwarted Friday night.

At approximately 10:50 p.m. on Friday, a call came in for all Jamestown Fire Department vehicles to respond to a fire at First Covenant Church on Spring Street.

When The Post-Journal arrived on the scene, a middle-aged man was being detained by police officers. Officers later told The Post-Journal that the detained man had brought a container of lighter fluid and had lit a map on fire on the church steps.

After the fire was extinguished, it was determined that no other fires on church property had been set.

The detained man was brought to the Jamestown Police Department where further investigation will take place.
