Linnea Anderson had a hat trick in the first half and Jamestown Community College took care of visiting Genesee CC, 5-0, in NJCAA Region 3 Division III women's soccer on Thursday.
Anderson netted her first goal just 36 seconds into the game from Nicole Mahoney, tallied her second from Olivia Sinatra at the 28th minute and the third with two minutes left in the half from Danelle Shelters to help the Jayhawks remain unbeaten in their last six games (4-0-2) and improve to 6-4-2 overall.
Jamestown racked up 17 shots on goal while holding Genesee (4-7-1) to just four.
Anderson, a midfielder, now has five goals on the season. This marked the fifth time this season a Jamestown player has recorded a hat trick in a game.
Ashley Skelly, assisted by Samantha Colston, scored her 12th of the year at the 60th minute to increase the advantage to four and then Shelters delivered her second assist of the game when she found teammate Courtney Corder with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
The score was Corder's first of the season.
Jamestown will next host nationally ranked Finger Lakes CC at noon on Saturday.
MEN PLAY WELL
Jamestown Community College played its best soccer to date, but lost to the second-ranked team in the nation, Genesee CC, 3-2, in an NJCAA Region 3 Division III men's soccer game.
"We played the best soccer we've played," JCC coach Pat Anderson said. "Today was really high-quality soccer, and (Genesee's coach) said we were one of the best team's they'd played all year."
Gage Bird gave the Jayhawks (7-7-1, 4-5-1) the early lead with his eighth goal of the season at the five-minute mark from Connor Meekins, but 10 minutes later Genesee (13-1, 13-0) tied the game with a penalty kick goal by Sean Allen.
Allen later put the Cougars ahead with a tally off a corner kick and Sean Hallas made it 3-1 at the 60th minute.
With two minutes remaining, Meekins, assisted by Nolan Farr, cut the deficit to one when he scored on a breakaway.
Ben Morgan made 13 stops for JCC.
Jamestown's next contest is with visiting Finger Lakes CC on Saturday at 2 p.m.
