A recent dinner provided by Christ First Mission Team to Compeer Chautauqua participants brought the total number of dinners served to Compeer over the past nine years to 2,520 meals.
Compeer offers the healing power of supportive friendship to adults and youth striving for better mental health. Christ First offers a welcoming atmosphere and a special home-cooked meal for both volunteers and participants that greatly enhances friendship time and reduces the stigma associated with mental illness, said Jann Ball, Compeer director. Christ First dinners for Compeer have enabled the organization to provide friendship opportunities to people who are in the program, waiting to be matched with a friend.
Charlie Hodges, mission and outreach coordinator for Christ First, said of his church's philosophy, "We are a community of ordinary people who discover extraordinary blessings as we follow Christ together. We want to share the joy of it with everyone."

For countless recipients of the gift of hospitality, friendship and socialization over the years, the church's statement of who they are rings very true for Compeer. All volunteers, youth, families and adults who come to the table are fed with kindness, respect and friendships that nourish the soul and the wonderful food that feeds the body.
