BEMUS POINT - Ross S. Briggs, 84, of Bemus Point, died Wednesday (Oct. 3, 2012), in his home.
He was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Jamestown, the son of the late Ross B. and Mary C. Zahm Briggs.
Ross was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was a retired vice president of the Chautauqua Brick Company Inc.
Ross was a member of St. Mary of Lourdes in Bemus Point, Ira Lou Spring American Legion, Bemus Point Veterans of Foreign Wars 557, War Vets Rec., and Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.
He is survived by two sons: William "Bill" (Judith) Briggs of Bemus Point and Robert "Rob" (Linda) Briggs of Lakewood; and five grandsons: Nathan W. (Jennifer) Briggs of Bemus Point, Jon R. (Audrey) Briggs of Lakewood, Ohio, Peter D. (Johanna) Briggs of Jamestown, Stephen R. Briggs of Bemus Point, and Nicholas R. Briggs of Lakewood.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Bartell Briggs, whom he married Feb. 23, 1952, in Jamestown, and who died Dec. 27, 2007.
A private service will be held on Friday at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Todd Remick, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes in Bemus Point, will officiate. Burial will be in the Bemus Point Cemetery.
No visitation will be observed.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Bemus Point Fire Department, P.O. Box 306, Bemus Point, NY 14712; or Allegheny Highland Council Boy Scouts of America, 50 Hough Hill Road, Falconer, NY 14733.
The Freay Funeral Home, Mayville is in charge of arrangements.
