MAYVILLE - Elmwood Road residents want more done to solve concerns over violent, disorderly conduct and criminal behavior on their road.

Don Emhardt, town supervisor, told residents at a recent board meeting, "I gotta believe we're working on it," responding to continuing complaints about violence and drug dealing in a lakeside neighborhood along Elmwood Road in the town of Chautauqua.

Residents from the Elmwood Road, Fisherman's Lane area have used the public comment portion of recent town board meetings to voice their concerns about what they claim are frequent instances of violent, disorderly and criminal behavior by some locals.

"It looks like the same old thing," resident Jeff Leonarczyk said before describing problems he alleged were still unchecked. "We do see a cop down there every now and again."

"We've been talking about this for four years," resident Sally Bobsein said.

"I haven't gotten to the people I need to," Emhardt said.

Chautauqua County Legislator Vince Horrigan, R-Bemus Point, said he was told the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department had increased patrols and, "the county drug task force has taken notice."

During the business meeting, the board unanimously approved the purchase of a John Deere loader for $84,000 from Five Star of Buffalo. Emhardt told the board Five Star's offer was the only one meeting the required specifications outlined in the town's bidding notice.

Board member Jim Kurtz reported on a recent meeting, part of a series, to hear ideas for the town's planned 34-acre park behind the former Mayville Central School building. There are now "about a dozen" preliminary suggestions for what should be included in the park, according to Kurtz.

In other business, County Legislator Fred Croscut, R-Sherman, told the board he definitely favored the sale of the county home, and his only concern now, "is the welfare of the residents" in the home.
