Janet R. Hartman, 87, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Ashland, Ky., died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Davenport Good Samaritan. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Ashland Cemetery, 1518 Belmont St., Ashland, Ky. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association; or to the charity of your choice. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting her family with arrangements.
Mrs. Hartman was born in 1925, in Buena Vista, Ohio, to Lafayette and Esther Kirk. She married Albert E. Hartman in Georgia. He preceded her in death in 1977. She was a bookkeeper for several businesses in Florida, including pest control and a department store. She was an accomplished seamstress, and enjoyed gardening, working jigsaw and word find puzzles, and making jewelry, especially necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.
Survivors include her stepdaughter Sheila (Jack) Avalos of Davenport; sons: Craig (Linda) Hartman of Holly Hill, Fla., and Ernest (Laura Jean) Hartman of Busti, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Maxine Pedersen of Florida; three nieces and a nephew; along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helena Hatcher.
