A Mile Of Smiles

BUSTI - With the Buffalo Bills struggling with the New England Patriots, hundreds of area residents found another way to spend Sunday - visiting the Busti?Apple Festival.

Cars were lined up as far as the eye could see on Busti-Sugar Grove Road as families and friends walked to the entrance of the festival in order to support the Busti Grist Mill and the Busti Fire Department.

Once inside the grounds, guests had many different forms of entertainment from which to choose. Old Dawg Bluegrass provided a soundtrack to the event, playing for much of the afternoon.

Thousands of people made their way through craft and food vendors at the 38th annual Busti Apple Festival on?Sunday.

The Allegheny River String Band was also set up at the event to provide even more music for the giant crowds to enjoy.

Once guests made there way past the music, the farmers market and food vendors were next up in the line of things to see. The farmers market, a crowd favorite, was full of the smell of fresh baked goods, homemade pies and more. Food vendors were set up selling everything from beef on kimmelweck to fresh funnel cakes and candied apples. The festival wouldn't be complete without a menagerie of crafts, and visitors wouldn't be disappointed as they were treated to more than 100 craft vendors from all around the area. A wide variety of handmade items were offered for sale at the festival this year including homemade soaps, candles, jewelry, clothing and more.

The Busti Grist Mill was also open for tours. The mill, which has been under reconstruction since 1971, is nearing completion and as a way to show area residents the progress some of the milling machinery was being run throughout the afternoon as a demonstration.
