Carroll?Seniors To Meet Oct. 15
FREWSBURG - The Carroll Seniors will meet Monday, Oct. 15, at the Frewsburg American Legion. A soup and sandwich lunch will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the regular meeting at 1 p.m. The lunch will cost $5. Shingles Clinic Is Oct. 13 In Mayville
MAYVILLE - Johnson's Village Pharmacy, 99 E. Chautauqua St., Mayville, is sponsoring a Zostavax (Shingles) vaccine clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. A registered nurse will be on hand to administer the vaccines. Appointments must be made in advance. Many insurance plans will cover the vaccine, including Medicare D plans. The price without insurance is $225. Contact the pharmacy at 753-3200 if interested in receiving the immunization. Those who have had chicken pox are more susceptible to getting the shingles virus, and the immunization may reduce the incidence and severity of shingles outbreaks. The pharmacy will contact each patient's doctor and insurance to check coverage, so advance planning is needed.
Electrical Safety Course Is Oct. 9, 11
An electrical safety course for maintenance personnel will be offered at Jamestown Community College Tuesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 11. The course, which meets from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., will be taught by Steve Quelet. Tuition is $200. To register, call JCC's Center for Continuing Education at 338-1005. Participants will examine electrical hazards and proper safety and troubleshooting methods. Topics include regulatory functions, lockout/tagout, safe equipment installation, and testing procedures.
Chautauqua VFD Sets Open House
CHAUTAUQUA - The Chautauqua Volunteer Fire Department invites members of the community to meet their volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The open house will feature fire truck rides around the Chautauqua Institution grounds, apparatus and equipment demonstrations, fire safety activities for children, fire and EMS equipment demonstrations, and free blood pressure checks. There will be a live fire extinguisher training class at 7 p.m. The museum room will be open to the public throughout the evening.
