Cardinals Pound Portville; Maple Grove Prevails

PORTVILLE - Alex Miinte's 80-yard touchdown run on Randolph's second possession of the game got things started for a Cardinals' offense that couldn't be stopped on Friday evening.

Following Miinte's run, Randolph (3-2) scored 35-straight points over the next 3 quarters to rout host Portville, 42-6, in Class D football.

Jordan Dowiasz followed Miinte, who also crossed the goal line from 1-yard out in the third period, with touchdown runs of 48 and 29 yards. In the third quarter, Mitchell Maycock found Nathan Beaver for a 23-yard touchdown pass to make it 35-0 before Jared Pitchford hit paydirt from the 5 in the fourth.

Portville (3-2), which did itself no favors during the game by losing three fumbles and throwing an interception, finally managed to score with five minutes remaining in the final period, an 82-yard scamper by Gunnar VanCuren.

Dowiasz led the Cardinals' rushing attack with 160 yards on 16 carries while VanCuren led the Panthers with 16 rushes for 144 yards.

Maple Grove continued its perfect season on Friday evening and improved to 5-0 in Class D by blanking winless International Prep at Grover, 37-0.

Despite getting off to a slow start - the Red Dragons were held scoreless in the opening period - Chris Jones broke the tie on the second play of the second quarter with a 4-yard run to paydirt.

Oliver Simpson added scoring runs of 2 yards (in the second quarter) and 46 yards (in the third) on the way to recording a game-high 151 yards on 12 carries.

Derek Johnson added a 12-yard score, Graham Nelson an 11-yard touchdown run and Erik Olson a 35-yard field goal in the winning effort.

Defensively, Jonah Tanner led the way with 14 tackles while Jon Scroxton added eight.

WILLIAMS LIFTS KNIGHTS

CATTARAUGUS - Zeddie Williams had a big night both rushing and receiving in leading Silver Creek to a 10-point victory, 30-20, over Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

Williams scored three touchdowns, gaining 218 yards on 29 carries and making four catches for 50 yards to help the Black Knights improve to 2-3 and keep the Timberwolves winless at 0-5.

Williams scored on runs of 34, 70 and nine yards.

Silver Creek, which trailed 20-15 heading into the final quarter, scored 15 points behind a a 10-yard touchdown run from quarterback Nick Iskra and a score from the 9 by Williams to clinch the victory.

For Cattaraugus-Little Valley, Matt Booth had seven carries for 78 yards and scored on touchdown. He also made a team-high 13 tackles.
