Walter K. Best, 79, of 1724 Waterman Road, Falconer passed away Monday (Sept. 24, 2012) in his home.
A lifelong area resident he was born Nov. 5, 1932, in Jamestown, the son of the late Walter L. and Ermyntrude Johnson Best.
Walter was a graduate of Cassadaga Valley High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1951 to 1954. He was employed by MRCSKF for 44 years retiring in 1999.

Walter was a member of the War Vets and Recreation Club and he enjoyed fishing, hunting and driving his John Deere tractor.
Surviving are his wife, Melinda J. Gray Best, whom he married Nov. 14, 1986, in Celoron; five sons: Randall K. (Corinne) Best of Angola, N.Y., Rodney D. Best of Gerry, James H. (Kerry) Mitchener of Falconer, Jeffrey D. (Renee) Mitchener of Jamestown, and Brian W. (Korinne) Best of Falconer; a daughter, Rhonda J. (Robert) Seebold of Danville, Pa.; 14 grandchildren: Jamie Best, Alexandra D. Best, Dalton C. Best, Ryan D. Best, Robert Seebold, Daniel Seebold, Mark Mitchener, Griffin Best, Anthony Sproveri, Caleb Mitchener, Zoie Best, Ezra Mitchener, Riley Best, Jimmy Mitchener; two great-grandchildren; three brothers: Richard (Winnifred) Best of Blockville, Herbert (Edith) Best of Gerry, and Malcolm (Mary Lou) Best of Little Rock, Ark.; and a sister, Harriet (Robert) Schauman of Little Valley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Jeffrey D. Mitchener will officiate. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Ellington.
Friends will be received by the family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
