WESTFIELD - Westfield's Mike Okerlund's 99-yard touchdown run in the third quarter highlighted an 18-6 victory over Falconer (1-3, 0-3) on Friday in Class C football.

Dan Ferguson started off the scoring for the Wolverines (2-2, 2-1) as he scored from 10 yards out. The touchdown capped off a 60-yard drive.

The 6-0 lead held up into halftime.

Then in the third quarter, after Falconer pinned the Wolverines deep in their own end, Okerlund took a handoff off tackle and scampered 99 yards for the touchdown and a 12-0 lead.

Westfield coach Bob North noted a key to success in the second half was due to offensive line coach Brian Johnson.

"Brian Johnson does a great job with the offensive line," he said. "He made some adjustments at halftime. We haven't had him lately and it was key having him back tonight."

The Golden Falcons cut the deficit in half when Cody Dustin hit paydirt from 2 yards out.

The Wolverines responded as Ferguson broke off a 25-yard touchdown run for the final score.

Ferguson finished with 18 carries for 82 yards and two scores while Okerlund ran for 163 yards on 18 carries.

"I was hoping we could run the football and we did," North said. "We didn't give up on it."

Ferguson was also stellar on defense as he recorded 10.5 tackles. Cameron Wright and David Figley combined for 11 tackles.

Jacob Youngberg led Falconer's ground game with 82 yards on 19 carries while Dustin finished with 35 yards on 15 attempts.
