The 14th annual Great Bowls of Fire Chili Cook-off to benefit Hospice of Chautauqua County will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 6 at Cross Roads Farm & Craft Market, 6017 Sherman-Westfield Road, Westfield. Participants enter their culinary creations in one of three categories: Restaurant, Service Organization or Individual Class. All flavors are welcome, including meat, vegetarian, white or otherwise.
Each participant's crockpot of chili should be at Cross Roads by 9:30 a.m. so it will be warm by 10:30 and ready for the judges. Entries will be judged blind. Prizes will be awarded for first place in each category with recognition for second and third. The winners will be announced shortly after 4 p.m.
As soon as the judges have finished their job, all the entries will be identified, and the public will pay 25 cents per sample taste, the object being to try to gather as much money as possible in each jar for Hospice. The participant with the most money in his or her jar will win The People's Choice Award. Participants may bring extra chili to sell by the bowl to help increase their money.
