Police Searching For Shooting Suspect In Dunkirk

DUNKIRK - Dunkirk Police are currently looking for a suspect in a shooting which occurred Thursday afternoon. Brandon C. Washington, 27, of Dunkirk is currently wanted on an arrest warrant for second-degree assault, a class D felony and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony. The warrant was signed by City Court Judge Walter Drag.

At 3:50 p.m. police responded to a 911 call for a reported shooting on the 600 block of Main Street. Patrol units located a victim with a gunshot wound to his left leg. The victim was treated by Dunkirk Fire Rescue and transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital by Alstar Ambulance. The victim had non-life threatening injuries and was later released from the hospital.

An intensive investigation into the incident was initiated by patrol and detective divisions of the Dunkirk Police Department. At 8:20 p.m. the Dunkirk Police Department SAFE Response Team (SRT), patrol and detective officers executed a search warrant at a residence on the 500 block of Leopard Street as part of the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, warrants were issued for Washington. He is described as a black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs approximately 217 pounds. The subject may be operating a 2003 red Ford Expedition bearing NY REG FJY-8504. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Dunkirk Police were assisted in the investigation by Fredonia Police Department, New York State Police, Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office and New York State Department of Parole.

"I want to commend all the officers of the Dunkirk Police Department for a job well done on this investigation in such a short period of time," Police Chief David Ortolano said.
