A Lakewood woman has been charged following a hit-and-run accident Tuesday afternoon.

Freda Palmer, 79, of Lakewood was charged with leaving the scene of a personal-injury accident at 3:08 p.m.

According to police, a 40-year-old Jamestown woman was injured when she was struck by a car while crossing Harrison Street at South Main Street. The woman, who was operating an electric wheelchair, was hit by the 2010 Toyota Carolla that Palmer was driving. Palmer was attempting to make a left turn onto Harrison Street when she collided with the pedestrian. There were two officers at the scene in an unmarked police car when the accident occurred.

Palmer left the scene of the accident, but was stopped by a patrol car a short time later in the parking lot of the Bethel Baptist Church. The pedestrian sustained an injury to her right foot and her wheelchair was also damaged in the collision. She was treated and released from WCA Hospital. Palmer will be in court later to answer the charges.
