A Jamestown man is in Chautauqua County Jail after he was taken into custody Tuesday on 16 charges of sexual misconduct with a child.

Vaughn S. Zock, 50, of Jamestown was charged with 11 counts of first-degree sexual abuse, two counts of predatory sexual assault against a child, first-degree sexual conduct against a child, first-degree criminal sexual acts and endangering the welfare of a child Sept. 5.

On Friday, Zock surrendered himself to the Jamestown Police Department. According to a police report, Zock was recently indicted by a grand jury on 16 counts of crimes against a child. After an investigation by the JPD's juvenile victims unit, it is alleged that Zock committed these offenses over a period of approximately one year.

"The investigation was quite involved," said Capt. Bob Samuelson. "It took place over the course of several weeks. During the investigation, the police department worked closely with the Child Advocacy Program because it's somewhere that the family can go for help in a case like this."

Zock was arraigned on Monday in Chautauqua County Court and was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail with bail set at $200,000 cash or $400,000 property bond.

"Because of the seriousness of the charge, the bail was set at a point that would ensure that he stays in custody and that he's not endangering anyone else," said Samuelson.

The JPD's juvenile victims unit was assisted by the Chautauqua County District Attorney's Office, Department of Social Services and the Child Advocacy Program. The Jamestown Police Department asks that anyone with information regarding illegal activity please contact them. The JPD anonymous tip line can be reached at 483-8477. All calls and tips will remain strictly confidential.
