SALAMANCA - Maple Grove found itself in a hole as the Lady Red Dragons traveled to Salamanca on Friday for a Division 2 battle, but the trip home would be a happy one thanks to Paige Sirwatka, who found the net when it counted, resulting in a dramatic 3-2 come-from-behind win to preserve their perfect season.
The Lady Warriors (2-2, 3-3) took control in the first half as Micky Tinnerman scored with 26 minutes left and Alyssa Coustenis made it 2-0 when she found the net eight minutes into the second half.
That's when Maple Grove (5-0, 6-0) came alive.
At the 20-minute mark, Sirwatka scored on a penalty kick to cut the lead to 2-1 and seven minutes later, Emma Franczak knocked in a goal as Jordan Ahlstrom assisted to tie the game at 2-2.
Things seemed to be heading for ovetime, but Sirwatka put an end to the game on a direct kick that went into the net with just 21 seconds left to earn the victory.
Haley Fox stepped up and produced 10 saves in goal to get the win for Maple Grove.
Kashauna Learn and Courtney James combined for four saves for the Lady Warriors.
RANDOLPH - Taylor Zachar and Elizabeth Roosa each scored a goal as Randolph (4-1-1) defeated Silver Creek, 2-0, in Division 2 soccer.
Zachar tallied her third goal from Hannah Milbrand at 10 minutes of the first half.
Elizabeth Roosa added her fourth of the season for an insurance goal from Sabrina Jackson with 10 minutes left in the game.
Tiffini Keyes recorded one save in recording the shutout while Jamie Hehir made 11 saves.
