Rink Experience Is Only A Memory

September 12, 2012
The Post-Journal

To the Readers' Forum:

I appreciated reading that the current owner of the former Evan's Skating Rink has fond memories of skating there, but I truly wish the building would be returned to its original purpose as a skating rink with its original floating wood floor as opposed to another storage facility.

I am so glad that a few years ago I visited the rink, heard the live organ music and saw the nostalgic decor (some of which still remains today on the walls) as skaters of all ages skated by. The experience took me back to a special era of my youth and had I realized at the time it would be my last visit to the building as a skating rink I would not have wanted to leave and have that moment in time eventually become only a memory now.
