DJDC?Still Has Many Events On?Schedule

September 10, 2012
By Lee Harkness (DJDC executive director) , The Post-Journal

We would like to remind everyone tomorrow morning is our monthly business/development meeting and everyone is welcome to attend.

While it is made up of businesses and attractions, the committee includes everyone. The goal is to get everyone on the same page and to understand what each and every entity is doing. We go through the activities and events DJDC is involved with, but we also give everyone who attends a chance to talk about their special event or activity in summary form. We try to limit the meeting to one hour so it does not interfere with our normal business hours and activities.

On the agenda for DJDC tomorrow will be the Jamestown Chalkwalk, the Zombie Run, the ribbon cutting for Patient's Pharmacy, Fireball Run and the grand opening of the train station. While we will present these activities to the group there will be open discussion on the activities of all who attend. This meeting is held on the second Tuesday of each month at 8 a.m. and we do serve refreshments and coffee. Once again, you are all welcome.

Speaking of the Fireball Run, the time is almost upon on us. The cars will arrive on September 23, which is now just two weeks away. There are more than 80 participants and we want them to see Jamestown at its best as the whole world will be watching. As I have described, Fireball Run is a giant board game for actual cars that travel across the Northeast. They will arrive in Chautauqua County during the midday, and after traveling to six different attractions will arrive in downtown Jamestown to cross the finish line located at the corner of Lafayette and Third streets. We would like to invite all individuals, groups, and organizations to attend the finish line for these cars. On Sunday afternoon we will close Third Street so attendees can park their historic or special cars right in the street. If you have a band, group of cheerleaders, hot rod, group of friends or any organization we would invite you to come on down and show your support to these contestants as they arrive.

There will be a stage located at the corner of Third and Lafayette streets and Ron Seggi, a well known announcer with lots of character, will be announcing all afternoon. It will be lots of fun and as I understand it one of these cars will be worth over $2 million. There will be all sorts of cars entered in this race. We would invite anyone with a historic vehicle, hot rod, sports car or anything in between to attend and join us on Third Street. If you have any questions, please call DJDC at 664-2477 and we will do the best we can to answer any questions.

Now we have had lots of people asking about the train station. Yes it is almost complete with very little left to go. Due to scheduling problems of many who would attend, we have had to change the ribbon cutting and grand opening to October 12 - the invitations will go out this week. If you are interested in attending you can write that date on your calendar with a certainty it really will happen. This has been in the process a long time and it is hard to believe it finally has happened. It is the direct result of the hard work of many people - and people working together. Come and enjoy the beauty of this building - yet another treasure for Jamestown, N.Y.
