SALAMANCA - Tanner John threw for 60 yards and a touchdown and then ran for two more to lead Salamanca past Cassadaga Valley, 24-8, in Class C South football on Friday night.
John connected with teammate Jarron Ball from eight yards out to cap a 10-play, 60-yard drive on the Warriors' (2-0) opening possession of the game that, following an Evan Harrington extra point kick, made the score 7-0.
Two possessions later John called his own number from the 7-yard line to increase the lead to 14.
John scored once more with a 2-yard run in the second and Harrington drilled a 29-yard field goal to go into half ahead 24-0.
Tage Reuther helped the Cougars (1-1) avoid the shutout in the third period with a 5-yard touchdown run.
Cyrus Spruce led the Salamanca rushing attack with 106 yards on 13 carries while Jordan Boughton led Cassadaga Valley, gaining 61 yards on nine rushes.
