Dunkirk Woman Helping Hurricane Victims

September 8, 2012
The Post-Journal

Mary Jane Covley Walker of Dunkirk was deployed recently to Hattiesburg, Miss., to provide assistance in American Red Cross shelters as residents recover from Hurricane Isaac.

The response to help people affected by Hurricane Isaac is a large one, spanning several states with millions of people affected by the storm. The Red Cross is working closely with local, state and federal officials and community organizations to coordinate the multi-state relief response and help ensure people get the help they need.

Walker was the head librarian at the Dunkirk Free Library until she retired in 2010 after 29 years of service.

Anyone wishing to help those affected by disasters can make a donation to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief by visiting www.redcross.org, calling 800-REDCROSS or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Charges will appear on the donor's phone bill.
