ERIE, Pa. - Assistant PGA Professional Alex Weir of Kahkwa Club became the first professional in the section to win both the Section Championship and the Assistant Championship in the same year on Wednesday.
Weir fired a 66-71-137 to edge Chris Stoddard of Park Country Club, who carded a two-day total of 69-69-138, and earn a place in the 36th National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship at the Wanamaker Course in Port St. Lucie, Fla., from Nov. 1-4.
Weir will be joined by Stoddard in Florida.
Ryan Swanson of Pinehurst Country Club took third behind a 67-73-140, Liam Friedman of Orchard Park was fourth with a 73-70-143 and Jeff Urzetta of Oak Hill rounded out the top five with a 68-76-144 total.
Stoddard and Swanson played their high school golf at Southwestern and Sherman respectively. Both are St. Bonaventure University graduates.
Earlier this year, Weir recorded a 36-hole total of 147 on the East Course at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester to become the WNYPGA Coors Section Champion.
