Dr. Rudy Mueller, Democratic Party candidate for the 150th New York state Assembly district, is calling for an immediate investigation of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and his alleged use of state taxpayer money to settle sexual harassment claims against Assemblyman Vito Lopez.
"The people of New York deserve an honest and open government and rightly expect their elected leaders to lead by example," Mueller said. "If Mr. Lopez committed these sexual acts against other women, then he should resign immediately. All people, especially women and children, should be respected with dignity and sexual abuse or harassment will not be tolerated. I understand Mr. Silver apologized for making a mistake by not referring Mr. Lopez to the Ethics Committee. We don't need another 'Penn State' type cover-up. If Mr. Silver used tax dollars and tried to protect a political colleague and friend, then his leadership position should be called into question."
