Less than four months after its grand opening, Five Star Urgent Care has almost doubled in size.

The $500,000 renovation project has expanded the business from 1,700 square feet to 3,100 square feet.

Five Star Urgent Care, which is located in Suite 270 of the Riverwalk Center in Brooklyn Square, offers quality medical care without the wait, seeing most patients within 15 minutes of registration. In order to provide patients with minimal wait time and comfortable service, the facility needed to undergo an expansion to accommodate for patient demand.

Dr. John Radford, Five Star Urgent Care owner, said the expansion was planned prior to opening the business.

"We knew we would need more space," he said. "We knew there was enough demand for our services in Jamestown that it needed done from the get-go."

Five Star Urgent Care offers fast, reliable care for non-life-threatening ailments. With state-of-the-art equipment, including on-site X-rays and lab testing, Five Star's staff can treat all non-life-threatening ailments, from bronchitis to stitches, sprains to fractures and everything in between - including routine medical exams. The facility is on a walk-in basis, with no appointment necessary.

Radford said the expansion project included adding five more examination rooms, for a total of nine, a new nurses station, two more restrooms - with one equipped to meet the specifications to be a drug-testing facility - and a comfort waiting room.

"The internal results waiting room is where family members can wait in a family-room sized area with a surround-sound 3-D television and an arcade game so folks can relax and be more comfortable," he said. "These upgrades allow us to further enhance patient comfort and care, keeping wait times well below that of a hospital emergency room. These upgrades only further set Five Star apart from other urgent care providers, with better service, better quality of care, less wait and increased comfort."

Five Star Urgent Care has been certified as a category two facility by the Urgent Care Association of America. This certification means Five Star adheres to nationally standardized criteria that only a few urgent care centers meet and it is the only one to do so in the Jamestown area, said Radford.

The use of advanced electronic medical records allows the staff to communicate directly with the patient's primary care provider and other medical specialists regarding the care a patient receives to ensure coordinated, quality medical attention. Also, Five Star accepts most insurances and Medicare.

Radford said Five Star is a more affordable alternative than hospital emergency rooms, with lower insurance copays for the same service. Patients receive a follow-up call within 72 hours of their visit, and, if authorized, the patient's primary care provider is notified of Five Star's clinical findings. Also, prescriptions are sent electronically to pharmacies.

Five Star is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call 489-3144.
