Jamestown Y Schedules Lifeguarding Course

September 1, 2012
The Post-Journal

The Jamestown YMCA will offer a fall waterfront lifeguarding class this month.

The course is the updated American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding 2012 course. It is the most current program available and implements the latest science for CPR, first aid and AED standards and the latest in aquatic rescues. The Y's annual spring and summer classes certified about 50 new lifeguards for the county parks, pools and camps. Due to the growing demand for lifeguards in the area, the Jamestown YMCA will offer a fall course starting Sept. 8.

Classes will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29 and include both classroom and water exercises. Students must pass entry requirements, attend all classes and pass all written and water skills to be certified. Class size is limited and pre-registration is encouraged. The class costs $200 for YMCA members and $250 for potential YMCA members.

Upon successful completion of this class students will be certified in American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding 2012, first aid, CPR-PR and AED. Students must be 15 by the final day of class. For more information, call the Jamestown YMCA Aquatics office at 664-2802, ext. 233.
