ELLERY - If you're looking to showcase your muscle car one more time before summer ends, the place to be Labor Day is Midway State Park.
The Der Kobblers Automobile Association's 2012 Labor Day Cruise-In Car Show will be held at Midway starting at 9 a.m. Monday. Sam Ognibene, Der Kobblers Automobile Association member, said vehicle registration will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, with awards being presented at 3 p.m. He said this is the fifth time the car show has been held on Labor Day at Midway, which usually draws hundreds of classic automobiles.
''It depends on the weather,'' Ognibene said about how many cars attend the event. ''Last year, weather was not good and we had around 210 cars. The year before, the weather was beautiful and we had more than 500.''
The proceeds benefit WCA Hospital's Diabetes Self-Management Program. The donated money will allow WCA officials to purchase pedometers and food models which will be used by diabetes educators to better teach clients about the importance of exercise, goal setting and healthy food choices.
''With the money we give them they have helped quite a few people and bought a lot of materials,'' Ognibene, who has three daughters with diabetes, said. ''They give diabetics pamphlets and DVDs where people can teach them about diabetes and their diet. It is a worthwhile cause.''
Ognibene said he estimates the Der Kobblers Automobile Association has donated between $4,000 to $5,000 to WCA Hospital's diabetes program.
