KIRTLAND, Ohio - ''I wasn't terribly disappointed with our effort as we held our own, but didn't finish,'' said coach Pat Anderson after the Jamestown Community College men's soccer team was defeated 2-0 in its season opener by Lakeland CC (2-0) on Wednesday.
Lakeland is an NJCAA Division I team while JCC plays in Division III.
Blake Barker had two good scoring chances for the Jayhawks while Conner Meekins and Nolan Farr had one each.
The first Lakeland goal came in the first half at 17 minutes by Keith Austen.
The score stayed that way until 14 minutes of the second half when Brian Anderson deflected a shot past JCC goalie Ben Morgan, who made eight saves.
Ivan Lukeina made eight saves in recording the shutout for the Lakers.
JCC is next in action this weekend at East-West Showdown Tournament at Alfred State College with the Jayhawks facing Mohawk Valley CC at 2 p.m. on Saturday and SUNY Delhi at noon on Sunday.
