BPU?Offices Are Closed Monday

Due to the Labor Day holiday, the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities offices will be closed for business on Monday, Sept. 3, and will reopen at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, for regular office hours. Garbage and recyclables normally collected on Mondays by BPU sanitation workers will be collected on Tuesday, Sept. 4. The BPU will have an information tent at the Jamestown Labor Day Festival at Bergman Park, Baker Street, on Sunday.

Lakewood Market Extends Season

LAKEWOOD - The Lakewood Farmer's Market will be extended through September. The farmer's market is held from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays along Chautauqua Avenue by First Street near the clock tower. The farmer's market is sponsored by the village of Lakewood.

Ellington Tractor Pull Is Saturday

ELLINGTON - The Ellington Town Picnic Association will host the Southern Tier Mini Tractor Pullers at 11 a.m. Saturday at the ball field on West Main Street, Ellington. Call LaVerne Krotz at 257-2985 for information on weight classes and entrance rules. The event is rescheduled from the 100th Ellington Town Picnic weekend. Anyone attending should bring a lawn chair. Refreshments will be available.

Outreach?Center Slates Bag Sale

The Community Outreach Center located at First Lutheran Church, corner of Chandler and Center Streets, is holding a bag sale on Wednesday and Friday on all summer clothes The store is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Lakewood Kids' Day Is Saturday

LAKEWOOD - The third annual Lakewood kid's day will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on Chautauqua Avenue, Lakewood. Featured will be a sidewalk coloring contest. Prizes will be awarded. Registration is required at the clock tower or in Mindy's Place. This event is sponsored by the Chautauqua Avenue merchants, the Lakewood Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs.

Library Boards To Meet Thursday

The James Prendergast Library board of directors and the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System board of directors will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Fireplace Room at the Prendergast Library, 509 Cherry St.

Frewsburg Car Club Sets Cruise-In

FREWSBURG - The Frewsburg Classic Car Club will hold its 15th annual cruise-in Sunday, Sept. 9, at the firemen's grounds on Main Street in Frewsburg. Admission is $3 or a nonperishable item for the food pantry. Registration is from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Refreshments, music and drawings will be available. A People's Choice trophy and dash plaques will be awarded. Proceeds will benefit the youth group. The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 16. For more information, call Denny Phanco at 569-5457.

Helping Hands

To Hold Bag Sale

Community Helping Hands will hold its Labor Day bag sale from Tuesday, Sept. 4, through Saturday, Sept. 8. Bags can be filled for $1. New items added every day. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. For more information, call 487-1488.
