Jean L. Fargo, 84, of Columbus, Pa., died at her residence in Erie, Pa., on Saturday, August 11, 2012.
She was born on March 10, 1928, in Columbus, Pa., a daughter of the late Earl and Elizabeth Whitcomb Messenger.
Jean was raised and educated in Columbus. Following her marriage to Lowell R. Fargo on July 17, 1949, in Corry, Pa., her main priority was raising and caring for her family. Later, she worked as an Avon Representative in the Columbus and Corry areas for many years. She had received numerous awards from Avon, including the President's Club, several times. Jean also babysat for several families over the years.

She was a member of the Columbus Community Evangelical Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and deaconess. Jean also taught Bible school and was involved in many church activities and functions. She enjoyed making cakes for many events in the area.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell, on July 20, 1988, a brother Arnold Messenger, three grandchildren: Alisha Disselhoff, Brett Fargo and Michael Fargo, and a great-granddaughter Kirstin Monroe.
Jean is survived by three daughters: Charleen Matteson and her husband, John, of Erie, Pa., Diana Woodworth and her husband, John, of Corry, Pa., and Sharon Disselhoff of Tidioute, Pa.; a son, Larry Fargo and his wife, Julie, of Corry, Pa.; and a brother Ronald Messenger and his wife, Carolyn, of Corry, Pa. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and attend the funeral service there on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Pastor Les Utegg of the Columbus Community Evangelical Church will officiate.
Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Pa.
