To the Readers' Forum:
Are you kidding me? Congress just went home for a five-week vacation to try to convince us to re-elect them. For a year and a half they have done absolutely nothing and now they come home with a favorable percentage in the teens; perhaps now in the single digits, and will be spending our money to convince us to return them to Washington.
Our money, you say? Well, where do you think they get their re-election war chests?
Former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher once stated something to the effect that she didn't understand the American political system at all; that the American citizens spend money (political contributions) to get their members of Congress elected simply to go to Washington to foolishly spend more of their money! Makes no sense to me either.
The US faces a fiscal cliff later this year unless Congress acts on several very important bills or bill extensions and now they leave all that in DC, return home to try and convince us to send them back to Washington to continue what they have been doing for the last year and a half: nothing.
All they have done is political wrangling instead of representing we who pay their salaries and exorbitant benefits. So sad, so very sad.
